Douglas Tool 15-ounce trim hammer(DFI15S)

The Douglas 15 oz trim hammer. It took me at least a year to decide to buy this hammer. But my 16 oz 16 in wood handle Plumb ™ was showing serious wear, and are nearly impossible to find. So I decided it was time to find a replacement. I looked at several different brands including the raved Stiletto. But I found that the Douglas kept coming back to the front. I ordered it. When it arrived I couldn't wait to get it out of the box. My first thought was, "This thing is too pretty to even scratch!" I actually didn't use it at all for several days, just showed it off to other carpenters @ the lumberyard like a kid with a new toy.

I've been swinging a hammer for 30 years, and to a carpenter the hammer is a very personal item. A hammer must feel right when you hold it, after all it is an extension of your body and you must be one with it.

"Qualities I Look For in a Hammer and how the Douglas Tool DFI15S adds up"

• Comfort, This hammer is comfortable. The 15 oz model comes with a 12 inch hickory handle that just feels good in your hand. Very little if any vibration or stress on the arm and wrist.
• Design, ah, Design is what really sets the Douglas hammers apart. It (the 15 oz) and the entire Douglas Tool line is a work of art. It is not only a nice looking design, it is very functional. I especially like the The patented H2IT (Head-Handle Interface Technology), It makes changing the handle a breeze. The way they extend the neck of the head down into the handle was very ingenious, it also protects the handle from those licks that we sometimes miss, (I did say sometimes). The side nail puller, I haven't used yet, but a nice touch. Other features include a Side-strike surface and Chisel-tip rip claw. .
• Balance, The balance of the 15 oz is very impressive
• Versatility,
• With the design and features listed above, this is probaly the most versitale trim hammer ever made with the only exception being... The Douglas Tool 18 oz finish hammer of which I have one coming! (Thanks Andrew).

• Durability, Due to the fact that I have only had this hammer a short time, I really can't rate the actual durability of the hammer at this time. However, with the quality of the product I look for it to be drivin' nails for quite some time.

Pros

Everything mentioned above. The Douglas Tool 15-ounce trim hammer(DFI15S) passed and exceeded my expectations. I look forward to using it.

Douglas Tools I must say has a very impressive hammer and a very affordable price, about $60.00. One of the really important issues where many companies are lacking is customer service, Not These Guys, By far the best I've ever dealt with. If you are a carpenter or just a DIY'er that likes quality tools, do yourself a favor and buy one of these hammers.

Cons

There are only two things I'm not completely happy about.

• #1, The 15 oz is available with the 12 inch handle only. I am used to a 16 oz with 16 inch handle. Not a big issue but this was initially why I bought the hammer with a extra 16 inch replacement handle thinking I could change it out. It doesn't interchange like the other Douglas hammer heads. With that being said, The folks at Douglas Tool have went way overboard to make it right with me.
• #2, Is the fact that now I want a whole collection of these hammers!
